We joined the #GivingTuesday movement with a goal of raising $3,000 for college field trips.
#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Our goal is to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving our local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes we support.
We want to offer as many college experiences as possible for their students. With nearly 90% of our students qualifying for free/reduced lunch, it is difficult for families to cover the cost of these trips, and we do not want students to miss critical college exposure opportunities simply due to the cost. Last year, Albany Leadership had a 100% acceptance rate to colleges for our seniors who applied to college, and they credit this in part to the college experiences we provide to our students.
This year, we hope to bring 40 juniors to Philadelphia to visit Temple University, Cheyney University (the oldest of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities in America) and Lincoln University. In addition, their students will be visiting One Liberty Observation Deck, Eastern State Penitentiary, National Constitution Center and the area known as “America’s Most Historic Square Mile”.
Our ALH motto asserts, “One Leader Changes Everything.” We also believe that even a small donation can make a big difference.
Your donation enables ALH to:
- increase our academic offerings
- provide more opportunities for college exploration and preparation
- improve our technology for students and faculty
- expand our athletic programs
- offer more extra-curricular clubs and activities
- enhance our community service efforts

Black Diamond Scholarship Fund
Each year, ALH’s Black Diamond Corporation generates scholarship funds for a deserving senior. The money raised by the Black Diamond Corporation is an opportunity for a graduating senior to receive a minimum of $1,000 toward her college education. The Black Diamond Corporation is a student-led organization and raises funds internally through management of school events, creation of school paraphernalia, fundraising and internal marketing.
Starting in the month of April, seniors are invited to apply for the scholarship, which weighs the academic and extra-curricular feats of the student. Each year’s recipient of the award is announced at graduation.
To date, the Black Diamond Corporation has raised in excess of $10,000.
If you’d like to donate to this worthy cause, please contact the school at 518.694.5300 and ask for Mr. Patterson.
ALH’s Food Pantry is open! The Pantry creates individually crafted Meal-To-Go packages that are available to all ALH students and families. ALH Food Pantry packages are prepared in advance of holidays and school breaks and can be picked up at any time. The work of ALH’s Food Pantry is made possible by generous donations from individuals in the community and supporting partners.
